. The novel COVID-19 commonly referred to, as Coronavirus has become an unprecedentedglobal crisis that has so far manifested in over 212 countries. Globally, over 1,356,780cases have been reported with over 79,385 deaths. As at now, the Republic of Kenya hasconfirmed 179 cases with 6 fatalities. In Turkana County no positive cases of COVID-19have been detected so far.2. The effect of this pandemic is already evident in several of our sectors. Through thepresidential order, we have closed 760 Early Childhood Development and Education(ECDE) centers and all Vocational Training Institutes in the county representing part of the8% of our Gross County Product (GCP).3. The closing of market days in Lodwar, Kakuma and Lokichar in the past two weeks hasresulted in an initial business losses worth over Ksh 3 Million. There is also a markedreduction in revenue collection from the sale of livestock over the same period estimatedat Ksh 200,000.4. Moreover, the suspension in the issuance of fish trade and movement permits has reducedmoney supply within the county from approximately Ksh 2 Million to the current Ksh600,000. It has also been noted that the quantity of fish landed has reduced from morethan 708 metric tonnes to 212 metric tonnes per month. This has impactednegatively on the income and livelihoods of the fisher folk.
