Welcome to Kisii County, thehome of bananas and soapstone.With an estimated population in excessof 1.2 million and a population densityof over 1,000 inhabitants per squarekilometre -- one of the highest in Kenya-- Kisii County forms a ready market notonly for finished products but also expertsin the service industry.The county is teeming with a highly skilled labour force essential foreconomic growth besides harbouringopportunities for various investmentopportunities.Residents largely lead a settled life ona small-holder land ownership systemthat has culminated in massive landdemarcation, so much so that Kisii Countyis essentially one large urban dwelling,at least according to the United Nationsdefinition of urban areas. As one of the 47 counties in Kenya,Kisii County shares common borders withNyamira County to the North East, NarokCounty to the South and Homa Bay andMigori counties to the West.It covers an area of 1,302 squarekilometres and politically, the county isorganised into nine constituencies and45 electoral wards.The countys administrative seat isdomiciled in Kisii Town, which in itself is abeehive of activity and a commercial hubcharacterised by busy streets, human andvehicle traffic and an upsurge of modernhigh-rise commercial and residentialbuildings which are slowly replacing thecolonial era shops.
